Dr. Adam O. Karia (PhD), Rector of Water Institute. An international speaker and expert on such topics as - Saving the Earth through Science and Technology

Our Institute (WI) was established as an Executive Agency on August 22nd, 2008 under the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in accordance with the Executive Agency Act CAP 245 (Revised Edition; R.E 2009). We are mandated to provide quality expertise in the water sector through training, consultancy and research under the Ministry of Water and NACTE guidelines. Our Institute (WI) is fully registered by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and its Programs are fully accredited by NACTE. The Institute has Bachelor Degree and Diploma programs as listed in the academic program page.

Dr. Tulinave is a Lecturer and currently the Deputy Rector for Academics, Research and Consultancy at the Water Institute (WI), an agency of the Ministry of Water in Tanzania. She has over 15 years of experience as a civil and water resources engineer with honied expertise and skills in rural water supply projects, research and education. She has worked as an Engineer for the Ministry of Water (MoW) for 10 years, during which she was mostly involved with rural water supply and sanitation service management. As a Deputy Rector at the Institute her main roles include management of training, research and consultancy services for developing expertise necessary for water sector empowerment.

The Water Institute (WI) in Tanzania is a government-owned center of excellence under the Ministry of Water, specializing in training, research, and consultancy for water resources management, sanitation, and environmental engineering. Located in Dar es Salaam, it offers accredited certificates, diplomas, and technical bachelor's programs, including water supply engineering and pump mechanics.

WI plays a pivotal role in training competent professionals to address national and regional water supply and sanitation challenges, directly supporting the Tanzania Ministry of Water's objectives.

  • Academic Programs: WI offers NACTVET-accredited programs (NTA 4-6) in:

    • Sanitation Engineering, Water Supply Engineering, Operation and Maintenance of Water Systems Engineering, Geomatics for Water and Civil Works Management, Plumbing and Pump Mechanics, Master’s in Sanitation Management

Role in Sector: The institute is crucial for addressing the skills gap in Tanzania's water sector, fostering technological innovation, and providing expert consultancy.

Research & Sustainability: Focuses on developing sustainable water supply solutions, including solar-powered systems and fluoride removal technologies
